THE two brothers feasted directly from the pots they had just cooked in.
After eating their fill they lazily left the pots next to their bed before falling asleep, telling themselves they would clean up in the morning.
But it turned out their laziness was their saving grace!
This is because thugs fired several shots into their shack, hoping to slaughter the brothers – but the pots took the bullets instead!
Yet their nightmare was not over: the thugs proceeded to break down the door.
When they realised the two men were still alive and kicking, they beat them with iron rods, demanding money.
When their torment ended, their attackers fled from the shack in extension 22, Mamelodi East with R2 500, clothing, two cellphones and a new generator worth R4 850.
Livito (26) and Mario Mahlaule (19), who own Majozi Salon in the area, told Daily Sun they were lucky to be alive.
“It was a matter of life and death. The robbers showed no mercy,” said Livito.
“They gained entry using an iron bar to open the door. They beat us mercilessly until we surrendered our money and items to them,” he said.
Livito said while inside the shack, the thugs fired another shot to scare them.
“They really wanted to kill us. Fortunately they left after getting what they wanted.”
Mario said he spent two days lying down because of the injuries he sustained.
“I am in pain. I cannot do anything, but I thank God that my life was spared,” he said.
Mario added that they wanted their possessions and money back.
Police spokesman Sergeant Sam Shibambo said the police were investigating a case of armed robbery.
“I urge anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward. They can also call Mamelodi East police on 012 815 7071 or the CrimeStop number 08600 10111 or the Crime Line SMS 32211.” he said.
Shibambo said the robbers fled the scene in a white VW Citi Golf with an unknown registration number.
