HUNDREDS of Soweto commuters were advised to find alternative
modes of transport after taxi ranks and routes were closed on Friday.
MEC of Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi said cops were deployed in the area to monitor the situation.
Vadi closed the taxi ranks and routes operated by the Nancefield Dube West Taxi Association (Nanduwe) and Witwatersrand Taxi Association (Wata) following disputes between the associations.
According to Vadi they will be closed for a period of three months.
The MEC said should a taxi be found operating in those routes the person will be contravention of regulations.
He said of R25 000 will be issued against the operator.
