THE Alexandra Shutdown Movement has accused the City Mayor, Herman Mashaba of prioritising owners of illegal structures.
They are threatening to picket outside the City's Regional offices in Sandton, North of Joburg.
This comes after Mashaba promised that the city will rebuild structured that were demolished by Red Ants, early this month.
On Wednesday, members of the movement and ordinary residents marched on the streets of Alex, mobilising in making their way to Stanton.
Some parts of the roads were barricaded with burning tyres. But the police presence remained intense.
One of the Shutdown leaders, Sandile Mavudla said the demolished structures were not even occupied.
He said: "Owners of those demolished illegal structures are not upset because they have lost, their homes. They are angry because they have lost their monies. Those structures were not occupied.
"It is unfair for the Mayor to prioritise rebuilding their structures when people of the old Alexandra still don't have houses," said Sanele.
He added: "We intend on marching to Sandton to show the inequality. Alexandra is few kilometres away from an expensive city, yet people of Alex don't have houses."
