Fuel prices are expected to rise again at the end of October.

And AA has warned that taxi and bus commuters will also be hit hard as the hike may affect fares.

AA said big fuel price hikes are lined up for the end of October, based on the unaudited mid-month fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund.

Petrol prices are currently set for a 40 cents-a-litre increase, while diesel and illuminating paraffin could spike by 70 cents and 65 cents respectively.

Mzansi experienced its biggest ever petrol and paraffin increase earlier this month.

Both grades of petrol, 93 and 95 (ULP & LRP), increased by 99 cents and 100 cents a litre (c/l).

This brought the overall retail price of 95 ULP for motorists in Gauteng to R17.08 c/l and R16.49 c/l at the Coast.

Diesel 0.05% sulphur and diesel 0.005% sulphur will both increased by 124c a litre.

Illuminating paraffin (wholesale) went up by 104c, while illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will cost 139c more per litre.

AA said the International oil prices remain stubbornly high and it is possible that current tensions involving Saudi Arabia, one of the world's biggest oil producers, could place more pressure on fuel prices. More welcome news is that the Rand is working in South African's favour, and the recent firming of our currency against the US dollar has taken some of the bite out of oil's rally.
