RESIDENTS of Huhudi responded to a call to protest for the removal of two mayors in Vryburg, North West.
Residents have been struggling for months to get water with no clear answers from local or district municipalities.
They marched to hand over two memorandums to the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Municipality and to Naledi Municipality yesterday.
They made sure the memorandums were received by someone from the office of the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlement, Motlalepula Rosho.
Residents gave the provincial government three days to restore Naledi water and fire municipal manager, Tshepo Bloem.
Residents also called for an investigation into the finances of the municipality.
They alleged some people were making millions through water tankers supplied to the community. Marchers also felt the mayors should have been removed a long time ago. They said The marchers threatenedthere would be no schooling and work today.
They also called for the ANC to remove Boitumelo Mahlangu as Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati mayor and Neo Schalk as Naledi mayor.
“If the mayors implicated in VBS in Limpopo were removed, why can’t the same be done with the ones in North West?” asked Sanco’s acting provincial chairman James Gadinabokao.
“ANC must take decisive action to remove these mayors, recall Obed Bapela from North West and make sure we get an administrator in this municipality within three days. If not, we are going to fight.”
After a peaceful march, angry residents then rioted in town, tipping rubbish bins, littering and burning tyres.
Seth Ramagaga, director in the department of local government, received the memorandum on behalf of the MEC.
