TENSION is brewing between the ANC’s KZN factions after the party’s nomination list for provincial legislature members was leaked over the weekend.
The list, dominated by people believed to be KZN chairman Sihle Zikalala’s supporters, started circulating on party WhatsApp groups.
Deputy chairman Mike Mabuyakhulu has been left off the list.
The list puts Zikalala at the top, followed by provincial deputy secretary Sipho Hlomuka and treasurer Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
Usually the legislature is made up of the top four provincial leaders. As deputy chairman, Mabuyakhulu was supposed to be in second spot but instead tops the list of nominees to be sent to national parliament.
Senzo Mchunu supporters saw this as a way of sidelining Mabuyakhulu from provincial politics.
Social development MEC Weziwe Thusi and Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo have also been pushed to the national list.
A Mchunu supporter said the list sidelined Mabuyakhulu, as he was tipped to be appointed premier. “This will cause further divisions and we will not allow it,” he said.
Mabuyakhulu said he didn’t know about the list and doesn’t know where it was produced.
ANC provincial spokeswoman Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu said it was fake and people shouldn’t believe it as branches have started nominating people.
