LIMPOPO again stumbled to the second from last position in the matric exam ranking, with only 65,6% of matrics managing to pass.

But Limpopo MEC for Education Ishmael Kgetjepe said at the provincial matric results announcement on Friday: “Ours is not about the quantity but quality of education we provide to our pupils.”

The 65,6% shows an improvement of 3,2% from the 2016 results.

Schools in the troubled Vhembe district performed the best.

At Mohlotlwane Secondary School in Apel, Sekhukhune all 21 matric candidates failed the exam.

The top pupil, Anza Tshipetane, came from Mbilwi Secondary, followed by Lourens Swart of Hoërskool Pietersburg, and Boitumelo Ngoepe from Dendron Secondary School.

The MEC’s special award went to visually challenged Thulani Shikwambana from Rivoni School for the Blind, who achieved the highest mark in Xitsonga.
