The owners of e.tv and eNCA, eMedia Investments have announced that they will be launching a brand new news channel towards the end of the year.

Although the official launch date has not been released, the channel will be available on the company’s OpenView platform and not on DStv.

The channel will be called OpenNews and according to a media statement, it will have its own, unique look and feel, identity and management, thus distinguishing it from eNCA.

OpenNews will be broadcast out of the Cape Town studios, offering viewers an integrated news channel combining short format news, onscreen information and links with selected social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, and a proprietary app. OpenView viewers consume news differently from traditional news broadcasts,” said eMedia Investments Chief Executive Officer, André van der Veen.

The line-up will also syndicate the recently launched entertainment programme, The Spotlight with Tanya Nefdt and two new current affairs shows – The Modise Network, and The Fix with Karima Brown.
