A MAN was killed by five men but the killers weren’t brought to book, so the family decided to find their own justice.

But the way justice was delivered was nothing short of shocking.

A video of the man’s funeral shows inyanga Baba Shandu dancing mapunapuna – next to the grave!

Baba Shandu, an inyanga from Mandeni, northern KZN, is seen dancing butt naked close to the grave as the mourners sing and chant at the cemetery.

The video, which was taken about three months ago, surfaced on social media recently and left many shocked.

However, the mourners at the funeral didn’t seem to mind.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Baba Shandu said he was called by the family on the day of the funeral to return death to those who had killed their loved one.

“I’m an inyanga. When people assign me to deal with their troubles, I make their wishes come true and deal with the problem,” he said.

Asked about the ritual, Baba Shandu said when he danced to the sound of the mourners’ voices he had to dance as much as he could so his muthi would work.

“I dance that way because I want the muthi to work so the job can happen fast,” he said.

Daily Sun sought an expert opinion on the ritual being done in public.

Cultural expert Refiloe wa gaKhunou said it was sad that traditions were no longer held dear and practised in the manner they were before.

“African culture should be respected,” he said.

“Some things are not meant to be done in front of people’s eyes, especially if a healer will be butt naked. I must say that this is the first of its kind.”
