WHEN the shopkeeper installed cameras in his shop, he had no idea that they would one day help catch his killer.

A man was bust on Sunday for allegedly killing a family of three in Sirhosheni Locality in Nqabane Village, Dutywa on Friday night.

He appeared briefly in the Dutywa Magistrates Court yesterday.

Odwa Mamba (22) from nearby Lota Village is accused of killing a Somali spaza shop owner (49), his girlfriend (40) from Cofimvaba and their eight-year-old daughter.

According to police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha, it looked as if the killer used a bush knife to murder the family.

Village headman Kufakwakhe Sotsayi told Daily Sun: “A few days ago, the shop owner installed CCTV cameras in his shop.

“The camera showed the suspect doing this bad thing to these people. The police were informed about the footage and they arrested the suspect at his home on Sunday.

“These cameras helped a lot because I suspect it was not going to be easy to trace the killer.”

Manatha said the suspect faces three counts of murder.

“The case was postponed to 10 October for a formal bail application. He was kept in custody,” said Manatha.
