THE Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has received results from 31 of the 59 voting stations in the Metsimaholo Municipality by-elections.
The by-elections are a result of the ANC losing governance in the municipality, after August 2016 local government elections.
Following that, the DA, EFF, FF Plus and civic organisation Metsimaholo Community Association (MCA) formed a coalition government which elected the MCA's Sello Hlasa as mayor.
The IEC released the early voting tally as they indicate that the SACP isn't the preferred choice for the voting population of Metsimaholo.
The following ward's results have been released.
- Ward 1 - ANC: 39.50%
- Ward 8 - ANC: 49.90%
- Ward 9 - ANC :45.81%
- Ward 10 - ANC: 40.51%
- Ward 14 - DA :74.35%
- Ward 15 - DA : 69.75%
- Ward 16 - DA : 81.62%
- Ward 17 - DA : 50.07%
- Ward 18 - DA : 82.63%
On Wednesday, allegations of by-election polls being rigged have surfaced in Sasolburg's Zamdela, in the Free State, where voting took place on Wednesday.

DA winning with larger majorities and turnout in suburban strongholds. ANC share of vote sharply down in slightly lower turnouts. ANC vote splintering. #Metsimaholo https://t.co/vLdiLYxJr4

Here's what's interesting about #Metsimaholo: By-elections occurred in advance of succession. SACP supports #Ramaphosa & #EFF dislikes NDZ. #SACP & EFF do well. #ANC of Zuma weakened. There is a message in this to how voters feel about succession.
