THE new Joburg Metro Bus system has left hundreds of daily commuters frustrated.
But none of them is as angry with the bus service as Rebecca Muvhango (68)!
Her continued late arrival at home caused her husband to leave. He accused her of dating Ben10s!
Rebecca was one of the angry commuters who stopped Metrobus buses from leaving Gandhi Square in Joburg yesterday.
She said she was seriously angry with the company’s service, which has destroyed her marriage of 39 years.
“Since Metrobus changed things in February, their operation has been nothing but chaos.
“It’s as if there’s no one in control. The drivers do as they please.
“Buses are never there.
“They are always broken and at the depot.
“Ever since they changed to this new system, I have been coming back home late, at about 9pm.
“My husband accused me of cheating on him with Ben 10s and has left me. Now I’m close to losing my job too, because I’m always late.”
Nomana Zondi (38) from Joburg said: “Before the changes were made in February, everyone knew the schedule and the buses would stick to it.
“Now you just wait at a stop, not knowing if a bus will come or not.
“We’ve sent emails trying to find out what’s wrong but they just ignore us.”
Brian Miya (39) said: “We’ve been complaining for a very long time but nothing was done. Today it was another day of delays, so we decided enough was enough.”
Metrobus spokesman Goodwill Shiburi said the action at Gandhi Square affected 50% of workers. “Others not connected to Gandhi Square were working.”
He acknowledged the people’s complaints about the timetable, overloading and the number of buses.
“The crowd wanted proper presentation but was hostile,” Shiburi said.
