WHENEVER his wife was working night shift, her husband assumed she was with another man.

And on Friday, the situation took a deadly turn when he allegedly followed her to a local supermarket in Rocklands, Mangaung and shot her in front of shoppers.

After the shooting, the husband apparently handed himself in to a nearby cop shop.

The victim was declared dead on the scene.

According to the dead woman’s colleague, who is a security guard at National District Hospital, the victim often complained about her abusive husband.

“She often came to work worried that her husband thought she was cheating. She would even tell us he threatened to follow her to work so he could see for himself,” he said.

A witness said: “I was waiting for a taxi outside the supermarket when I saw the man shooting at a woman while she was trying to park her car. He then drove off.”

Free State Health MEC Montseng Tsiu said cops were investigating the matter.

“I’d like to send my deepest condolences to her family and colleagues. I urge everyone to support the family in every possible way.”

Police spokesman Constable Maselela Langa said: “A man (38) handed himself over to Kagisanong cops for allegedly shooting his wife.

“He will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court soon.”
