MADALA John Mfeka’s Sassa card was swallowed by an ATM two months ago.

The 70-year-old from K section KwaMashu, north of Durban, told Daily Sun he last received his pension in March.

When he reported this to the Sassa offices in Bridge City, he was told to reapply for his pension!

He was then sent from pillar to post. He came to Daily Sun asking for help. The People’s Papercontacted Sassa on his behalf.

Spokesman Mdumiseni Ntuli said the card was swallowed by the machine

because the madala put in the wrong pin code.

“There is no need for him to reapply for his pension as he was allegedly told. He only needs to get a new card,” said Ntuli.

On Friday, the SunTeam went to the Bridge City Sassa office with John.

Manager Molly Mahabeer gladly assisted the madala. Mahabeer told John if he wanted his pension to be transferred to his bank account, he will only get the money in July.

Mahabeer also offered to fill in the application form for a food parcel for the madala.

“Sometime people leave without getting help because we are short staffed,” she said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused John.”

The madala thanked the SunTeam for assisting him.

“Now I will get all my pension money. Going to these offices was making me sick.”
