NO one expects to wait in an ATM queue for 30 minutes or more.
But on Monday, a man in Protea Glen Mall, Soweto kept people waiting by drawing money using different cards.
People became suspicious and called the cops.
Witness Lucky Mdunge said the cop shop is not far from the mall and the police responded quickly.
“We were shocked to learn that the man had so many cards. We wondered how he got them,” he said.
Protea Glen police spokesman Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng confirmed the incident.
He told Daily Sun that a 42-year-old man was arrested at the mall for fraud.
“People were waiting in the queue to withdraw money at an ATM and noticed a man withdrawing money with different cards. They tipped off the police, who responded quickly.”
He said when police searched the suspect they found 19 Sassa cards, seven EasyPay cards, one Capitec bank card and one Nedbank card.
“He was also found in possession of an undisclosed amount of money,” said Mashiteng.
He said the suspect failed to explain where he got the cards.
“He was arrested and charged with fraud. He will appear in the Protea Magistrates Court soon,” he said.
