THE Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency is still searching for the lion that was reported to be on the loose on Tuesday.
The lion was spotted in Lydenburg by motorists, who then alerted the agency.
The lion was spotted 48km out on the Sabie/Lydenburg road, about 10km
before the Mbombela turn-off.
A motorist is alleged to have tried to scare it off, but it just continued walking freely. It is believed to be still roaming the area.
Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency spokeswoman Kholofelo Nkambule said the lion had not been found.
“Our team went there yesterday and again this morning. We will update the community if there is anything new.
“We would like to advise the community to call the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency on 013 759 5300 or one of our officials Juan de Beer on 083 628 1827 if they to see it,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kruger National Park spokesman said the lion couldn’t have come from the park because the distance between the park and Lydenburg was too big.
