IT’s been four years since Michael Komape (5) fell into a pit toilet at school and died a terrible death.
Since then there has not been any justice for his Limpopo family.
Now, in an effort to show what the Komape family had to suffer, their four-year journey will be presented as an exhibition, #Justice4Michael.
Non-profit NGO Section27 said it will highlight the sanitation challenge schools in Limpopo face, either with rundown toilets or no toilets at all.
Spokeswoman Zukiswa Pikoli said the exhibition will be housed at the Old Fort, Constitution Hill from Friday until Sunday.
“It is based on the Michael Komape case and tracks the family’s journey from his death, through to their almost four-year-long trial process,” she said.
Daily Sun ran a series of articles following the tragedy after the little boy fell into a pit toilet three days after starting school at Mahlodumela Primary in Chebeng Village, near Polokwane.
Michael drowned in kak.
The Komapes became linked to children’s struggle for sanitation and safe schools around Mzansi.
Pikoli said: “We were hoping that their case would serve as a warning of the depths to which we should never find ourselves sinking.
“Sadly, the education department has shown it has not learned this lesson or drawn a line beyond which they are not willing to go.”
