YESTERDAY was a joyful day for the residents of Rama City in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura officially launched the Rama City human settlements mega project.
It is part of government’s plan to address housing challenges in the City of Tshwane.
More than 15 000 houses are expected to be built there.
Makhura was accompanied by Tshwane mayoral committee for housing member Mandla Nkomo and Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Maya-thula-Khoza.
Many residents attended the launch and were excited when they heard the news.
Nkomo pleaded with the residents to take care of the project and protect it from people who would want to derail it.
“Do not depend on government to ensure that everything is protected,” he said.
He advised residents to stop buying stands illegally.
“When you do that, it is impossible for us to help you when you get evicted,” he said.
Mayathula-Khoza said she was happy for the residents.
“This project will not only bring employment for the people, it will also build dignified houses for them.”
Makhura told the residents they were planning to build seven primary schools, clinics, parks, township businesses and shopping complexes.
