THE HAWKS are investigating the Gupta family for allegedly diverting billions from the people of Mzansi into their own pockets.

Now a tip-off has indicated the Guptas do not pay a single cent for electricity.

THE JOBURG METROPOLITAN POLICE SAY THEY ARE AFTER THEM FOR BEING
IZINYOKA!

The Guptas live in a mansion in Saxonwold, one of the most expensive suburbs in Joburg, but they allegedly avoid paying for electricity by bridging (bypassing) their meter box.

Joburg Metro cops spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said cops had been sent to disconnect the illegal electricity connections at the house.

Chief of the Metro police, David Tembe, said the department has been conducting a campaign called Buya Mthetho to catch people bridging electricity meters.

“ Bridging electricity is a criminal offence and people found practising i t will be arrested and possibly prosecuted.”

Tembe said on Friday it was not only the Guptas who were raided but also other places in the city.

“It doesn’t matter who the person is and where they stay. If electricity is bridged that is theft and they have to be prosecuted,” he said.

Tembe said the special unit that conducts the Buya Mthetho campaign received a tip-off from anonymous people who claimed to know that the Guptas had bridged their electricity meter.

He said the Buya Mthetho campaign was launched two weeks ago by mayor Herman Mashaba.

“This operation doesn’t discriminate.

“We will be knocking on anyone’s door as long as one is not complying with the bylaws of the city.

“Rich or poor, if you are not complying with the city bylaws, officers will be knocking at your door,” said Tembe.

“We don’t see it as only the Guptas, but rather as people infringing the city’s bylaws.”
