THE film industry is mourning the death of award-winning director Siphiwe “SJ” Myeza-Mhlambi.

The 25-year-old was found dead on Monday in Lagos, Nigeria, where he was filming.

SJ was the son of photographer Siphiwe Mhlambi, who couldn’t describe the pain of losing his son.

Family spokesman Victor Dlamini said SJ had been in Nigeria since 5 January.

Filmmaker Ofentse Mwase said on Twitter: “ This is so unfair. You were already the best director and growing better. Rest in Power”.

Producer Tebogo Malope wrote: “Rest easy, my brother. You were most talented, hardworking and kind. Another star dimmed too soon.”

SJ co-owned Cape Town film company 7films.

Producer Nina van Rensburg said: “It is with broken hearts that we confirm Siphiwe Myeza has died. His death left a hole we can’t define.”
