A CAR was the last thing she had on her mind as she couldn’t afford one.

But when Nokwanda Zondi heard about a competition where a car was the prize, she decided to take a chance.

The unemployed 28-year-old woman from Westridge in Durban was announced the winner of a VW Golf during Gagasi FM’s 13th birthday celebration at its studios at Cornubia Mall.

The celebration was attended by former home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba, ANC KZN spokeswoman Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu and the DA’s KZN premier candidate Zwakele Mncwango.

Excited Nokwanda told Daily Sun this was the best prize she has ever won in her life.

“I saw the competition on Instagram and entered.

“You had to find the Gagasi car, take a picture or video next to it and post on the station’s Instagram page.

“I found the car at Bridge City Shopping Centre, where I made a video and posted it on Instagram.”

She said she got a call on Monday to say she was one of five finalists.

“On the day of the draw, we were asked to pick a box. One of them had the right key to start the car.

“Three people tried to start the car but it didn’t start. When I got into the car and heard it start, I was over the moon.”

Amanda will drive the car as soon as it’s registered in her name.
