Prophet Nana Poku of Kingdom Prayer Ministry says he accepts responsibility for his child.

MBALI Simelane (31) told Daily Sun well-known televangelist Prophet Nana Poku has not maintained his child because he had wanted her to have an abortion.

Mbali, from Orlando in Soweto, said he had told her to choose between him and the baby.

When she refused to abort, he allegedly told her he would not take care of the child.

She claimed he said if she went to maintenance court, he would buy his way out of trouble.

“My son is 10 months old and he hasn’t bought anything for him,” she said.

She said she is not working and her father supports the child.

She said their relationship only lasted for three months until she fell pregnant in 2017.

Poku, the founder of Kingdom Prayer Ministry, which has a number of branches, is said to be against abortion.

In his church, he apparently refers to abortion as “evil”.

Poku’s church made news after one of his pastors, Angel Bazooka was arrested in connection with rape. Bazooka had since escaped the country and a warrant of arrest has been issued against him.

Asked for comment, Poku said: “I was never ready to be a father, but when she told me she was pregnant, I accepted responsibility.

“I paid R10 000 in damages and have been transferring money monthly for support.

“I’m a man of God and will never tell anyone to kill an innocent soul.

“I never threatened her not to go to maintenance court. She put pressure on me to marry her. I wasn’t ready.”
