HE WAS armed and ready. And when the goods train slowly passed by, he jumped . . .
But it looks easier in the movies than it is in real life.
The would-be robber lost his grip and fell to the ground on Monday night.
The following morning he was found bruised and bleeding by residents who called the ambulance and cops.
At the moment he is under police guard at Tembisa Hospital, Ekurhuleni.
Brakpan police spokesman Captain Pearl van Staad said the suspect was trying to steal from a goods train, which was passing near Mkhanywa squatter camp.
The residents said the thief got what he deserved.
“We’re happy he got bust. The thugs target trains and that paints all of us in a bad light as robbers,” said a resident.
Van Staad said the suspect sustained head injuries. She said the goods trains got robbed while passing near the squatter camp.
“We suspect the perpetrators are from the squatter camp. The trains have security guards but the thieves still take chances,” she said.
“Paramedics found a firearm in the man’s hand and alerted the police.”
She said it was found that the revolver was used in a housebreaking in Ergo Road, Vulcania.
“The suspect will appear in court as soon as he recovers,” said Van Staad.
Cops are investigating a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
“We appeal to anyone who has information to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” she said.
