TWO guards were shot and killed on Monday night while sitting in their patrol car outside a store in Hillbrow, Joburg.
CCTV footage shows the suspects walking slowly towards the car. One of them stands next to it, pulls out a gun, and shoots into the car.
Two suspects reach for something in the car while others fire shots at bystanders.
The victims, aged 45 and 50, had their firearms taken. According to police, the victims were in their vehicle when they were attacked by five suspects at the corner of Caroline and Claim streets in Hillbrow.
Police spokesman Captain Mavela Masondo said: “The two security guards were shot in the upper body and certified dead on the scene. A firearm was taken from one of them.”
Masondo said the motive for the killings was unknown at this stage and police have opened two murder cases.
“We’re appealing to anyone who might have information that could help us arrest the suspects or help in the investigation to please call the nearest police station.”
National Security slammed the killings of its guards, Bhekumzi Mzolo and Joseph Skhosana.
The company said the guards were monitoring the Spar store shortly before close of business.
“We suspect the criminals had planned to rob the store, but as they approached it they saw the National vehicle.
“They walked up to it and killed both officers in cold blood.”
