This tombstone on the side of the road gives motorists nightmares.

MOTORISTS have had to endure the sight of a tombstone lying next to the Erfdeel Road in Thabong, Welkom for about two weeks.

The tombstone clearly displays the name Khotso Solomon, who died in 2006.

“I have never seen anything like this before,” said motorist Sello Ramolahlehi (45).

He said he suspects whoever left the tombstone next to the road had evil thoughts.

“I’ve decided to take a different route because I fear this road,” said Sello.

Another motorist Thapelo Molatodi (47) said he first saw the tombstone when he was on his way to work.

He said he thought there was a new cemetery next to the road.

“When I stopped to look. I realised it was just a single tombstone.

“It is placed carefully not far from Phumlani and Masakeng graveyards in Thabong.”

Thapelo said some of his relatives have been buried in the local graveyard and he went closer and saw the name on the tombstone.

“There is no way the tombstone walked from the graveyard by itself.

“This breaks my heart,” said Thapelo. Captain Malebo Khosana said the police can’t open a case because no one has come forward to lay charges of a damaged grave or stolen stone.

“I made an announcement on the local radio station to alert relatives of the dead but the people who came forward did not claim it.”
