GOGO Liziwe Ngeshe (94) has never had a birthday party.

So her grandchild Sabatha Ngeshe (34) threw her one at her home in Site C, Khayelitsha on Sunday.

Gogo Liziwe said: “My grandson made me happy.

“Although I told them I don’t like birthday parties, I am happy he threw me one.”

Sabatha said he wanted to thank his gogo for everything she had done for him.

“I am the man I am today because of her. She taught me how to treat people and how to behave. I had to do something for her before she died.”

Sabatha said he was raised by gogo Liziwe as his mother was working.

He said gogo liked samp and mealies and didn’t take any medication.

“She can still walk, do the washing and cook,” he said.

She has five kids, 32 grandkids and 50 great-grandkids.

Buyiswa Mhonko, who’s late mother was a family friend, said after her mum died, she and her siblings turned to gogo Liziwe whenever they needed anything.
