EASTERN Cape Social Development MEC Nancy Sihlwayi visited the kasi on Friday.
She was hosting a talk with teenage parents at Sizakele Konzi Hall in KwaNobuhle, Nelson Mandela Bay. But the event was disrupted when ANC Councillor Nomsa Booi started introducing guests to the audience. Gogo Nohokoni Madolo (92) started singing traditional songs and clapping.
Soon the people joined gogo as she sang and clapped. Booi had a hard time calming everyone down and eventually said to the gogo, using her clan name: “You will get a chance to sing, Mamtshawe!”
When the event was about to end, the MEC showered the gogo with gifts, including a face cloth, toiletries and a blanket.
“We are grateful you are here to give us your blessing, Mamtshawe. Pray for us as the government and we will continue to bless you,” said Sihlwayi.
When the speeches were over, Sihlwayi said: “Now it’s your time to sing for us, Mamtshawe!”
The gogo was then given the microphone and she sang for the audience.
