IT has been more than 10 years since Gagasi FM was established.
The KZN commercial radio station decided to show their appreciation to loyal listeners by holding its 12 year celebration with them.
On Tuesday, all day shows including the morning shows were broadcast from different parts of KZN as part of the celebration.
Gagasi FM spokesman Khulekani Shandu said the morning show, I Love Mornings With Mzokoloko, presented by Mzo “Mzokoloko” Gumede and Nonjabulo “Njabs” Zwane, was broadcast live from Empangeni.
The Golden Circle presented by Nomfundo Mzolo was broadcast live from Umlazi, south of Durban.
Shandu said the radio station had a tough start 12 years ago.
“We had the same challenges that other radio stations come across when they start off on air.
“But we worked closely as a team and here we are today, celebrating 12 years,” said Shandu.
He said the radio station had grown tremendously.
“We have managed to draw advertisers because of our growing reach. If you look closely at our DJ line-up, you’d notice that most of them are young go getters.
“We are aiming to draw in young and passionate listeners.
“But we don’t only entertain them. We also want give them tips on how to shape their future,” said Shandu.
Gagasi FM used to be P4 Radio.
According to Shandu the station managed to increase its listener numbers to more than 1 million in a short period of time. “We’re currently on 1,6 million!” he said.
