WHILE there’s a reward of up to R1 million to help trace the Guptas, apparently Ajay Gupta is in Dubai.
According to Leigh Gunkel-Keuler of OR Tambo Airport in Ekurhuleni, he left the country on an Emirates plane two weeks ago.
“The plane Ajay boarded was destined for Dubai. We can’t confirm whether he is back in the country or not. Airport management doesn’t have a record of people entering the country, which is the responsibility of immigration officials.”
Gunkel-Keuler said footage of Ajay leaving was handed over to the Hawks.
Spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi said the Hawks were working hard to have Ajay arrested. “We know he left the country and our investigations into the case are ongoing.”
Yesterday, Atul Gupta challenged the freezing of R10 million in his bank account. According to court documents, he claimed to be out of the country.
At the weekend, Police Minister Fikile Mbalula tweeted: “Ajay Gupta is evading the law. He can run but can’t hide.”
