A Family of four were injured in single vehicle collision into barrier along Helpmekaar Road in Ladysmith.

This is after they lost control of their vehicle and collided with the barrier along Helpmekaar Road in Ladysmith around midday today.

The ER24 spokesman Ross Campbell said paramedics were on the scene at around 1 pm to find the Mini Cooper on it’s side.

He said the woman had already been taken to a nearby clinic by bystanders for help.

"She had suffered an amputation of the leg below the knee and an improvised tourniquet was used to stem the bleeding," said Campbell.

"Once stabilised by our medics, she was taken to a private hospital for further treatment," he added.

Campbell said the husband and two children had suffered minor to moderate injuries and were treated and transported to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital for further care.

" The SAPS were on the scene for further investigations," he said.
