Search and rescue cops at the scene in Ntuzuma where an unknown man’s decomposed body was found.

THE BODY of an unknown man has been lying unclaimed in a mortuary for 13 days.

The decomposed body was found in Ntuzuma, north of Durban, on 1 May.

Young boys who had gone hunting made the gruesome discovery of the man’s naked body.

They told village elders, who called the police.

As no one has come forward to claim the body, KZN cops are now calling on families whose loved ones are missing to use the opportunity to come for DNA tests.

Resident Nhlakanipho Zondi (45) said they didn’t think the man was killed in their area.

“No one from this area has been missing since 1 May.

“Maybe this person’s family is looking for him, not knowing he is already dead,” he said.

KZN police spokesman Colonel Thulani Zwane said Ntuzuma police are investigating an inquest docket.

“Officers from the search and rescue unit were called out to recover the body of an unknown man believed to be in his 30s in the dense bush.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” he said.

Zwane called on people who have missing family members to visit the station to have their DNA tested.
