COPS in Mpumalanga have arrested an alleged bogus doctor.
Kano Mumina (38) appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday
Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said the fake doctor was arrested at a medical facility in Witbank, where she was found practising.
Sekgotodi said a team comprising the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, Witbank SAPS and Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) officials swooped on the premises following up on allegations regarding doctors practicing without valid credential.
She said when Mumina was asked for her practicing card she was allegedly found wanting.
"Her details were also apparently missing from the HPCSA registers. She was then arrested on the spot and charged for fraud and contravening section 17(1) of the Health Professional Act 56/1974.
A batch of files were seized for further analysis to assist ongoing investigation,” Sekgotodi said.
The case was postponed to 12 October 2018 pending further investigation, meanwhile Mumina has been granted R1000 bail.
