The EFF delegation led by our Deputy President Floyd Shivambu met with a delegation from Dr Patrice Motsepe’s Business Organisations led by Dr Patrice Motsepe to discuss issues of poverty, job creation and other socio-economic challenges confronting South Africa, as well as the matters on which the two delegations disagree and those matters on which there is agreement.

The EFF also expressed its concern about some of the issues that have recently featured in the public domain including the role of Independent Power Producers, and clear intention of Government to privatize ESKOM.

Dr. Motsepe repeated the statements he made at the African Rainbow Energy and Power (“AREP”) Media Conference on 18 February 2019 in terms of which he expressed his opposition to the privatization of Eskom and the fact that none of the companies that he is associated with will participate in any sale or unbundling of the assets of Eskom.

The EFF delegation and Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s delegation agreed to continue discussions on the issues of job preservation and job creation, poverty alleviation and also expressed the commitments of both delegations to transparency, governance, zero tolerance of corruption and the ethical conduct of business in South Africa.

The meeting agreed that in areas where we disagree, the EFF will continue to articulate its differences robustly, without fear or favour.
