EIGHT suspects including a member of the Gupta family appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court yesterday.

Varun Gupta, Ronica Ragavan, Nazeem Howa and Gupta associate Ashu Chawla are facing charges of fraud and money laundering regarding the Estina Dairy Farm in Vrede.

Three senior Free State government officials face the same charges. The officials, Peter Thabethe, Sylvia Dlamini and Tankisi Masiteng were released on bail of R10 000.

The address of another suspect, Kamal Vasram, had still to be confirmed. Ajay Gupta failed to present himself to the Hawks as agreed between the Hawks and his lawyer, and he is considered a fugitive from the law.

Members of the media were barred from entering court 29 at the time, due to lack of space.

Varun Gupta, Howa, Ronica Ragavan and Chawla were each released on bail of R200 000.

Members of the DA and EFF were outside the court, singing and holding placards. The case was postponed to 17 August.
