TWO people were killed by crocodiles in separate incidents in the Vhembe area of Thohoyandou, Limpopo at the weekend.

In the first incident, the body of gogo Mbengeni Malatjie (76) was found on Friday floating in Nandoni Dam and surrounded by crocodiles.

It is not yet clear what the gogo, from Tshiulungoma Village, was doing at the dam when she was seized by the crocodiles.

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said some of the woman’s body parts were missing.

“The gogo’s hands and legs, as well as her stomach, were eaten by the crocodiles,” he said.

When police arrived at the dam, the body was surrounded by crocodiles.

“Police had to throw stones to scare them off before retrieving the body.”

In another incident, Mulondo Ngarothe (9) from Tswera-Mashishi Village was killed by a crocodile in the Mutale River on Sunday at noon.

According to the cops, boys were swimming in the river when the crocodile attacked Mulondo.

“The other boys ran home to alert villagers, but when they arrived at the river Mulondo was already dead,” Ngoepe said.

The police were investigating.
