families with dogs often find themselves with more puppies than they require.

That’s why eThekwini Metro police have appealed to the public to donate their dogs to the force.

The K9 unit’s spokesman Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said they were looking for German Shepherds, Rottweilers and Malinois.

“The dogs should be between nine months and three years old.

“They should be confident, energetic and not scared of people or loud noises.

“They should also be strong and have good temperaments,” he said.

Sewpersad said they wanted to improve their K9 wing.

“Police dogs are used to provide proactive and reactive services in the unit.

“They are used for drug detection, explosive detection and to track and apprehend dangerous suspects,” he said.

People who wish to donate dogs are requested to contact the K9 wing on 082 887 5424, 083 378 9798 or 083 959 5195.
