COMMUTERS had to dive for cover during a taxi shoot-out on Tuesday.

After the dust settled in the Sibasa area of Thohoyandou, Limpopo, one man was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.

The other people who had been in a white VW sedan with him were questioned and released. The car stood idle for hours while police conducted their investigation at the scene.

Last year, two members of the Venda to Joburg Taxi Association were gunned down.

William Nethononda (65) of Thohoyandou block F was ambushed at his gate.

About a week later, Nthambeleni Tshishonga (49) of Maniini was shot at a local car wash.

A source told Daily Sun: “Many lives are going to be lost here. The sooner the police act, the better.”

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the man (63) was shot in the thigh.

“One suspect was arrested and a 9mm firearm with three rounds of live ammunition was recovered. The suspect will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court soon.”
