ADDO sports field in KwaNomathamsaqa, Eastern Cape is in an advanced state of decay.

The sports field’s change-room and toilets are surrounded by kak, forcing soccer players to change in the open.

Lubabalo January (23) said the state of the changing rooms had a negative impact on the players.

He said: “I stay away from the change-room because I’m scared I might fall ill if I use them.

“I am also worried the sewage will chase away our loyal supporters.

“I wish the municipality would clean the area and refurbish the toilets and change-room.

“We don’t have another sports field in this area, so we really need this one to be fixed.”

Monika Chance (39) said: “I always come to this sports field with my boyfriend because he loves to watch soccer.

“It hurts me to see men changing in the open because they can’t use the toilets and change-rooms.”

Sundays River Valley municipal speaker Simpiwe Rune said: “It is unlikely that the water at the sports field is kak.

“The field is not even connected to the sewerage system.

“There is an agreement with the ward councillor to excavate the area and divert the water to the natural storm water management system.”
