CHURCH members, cops, politicians and the Bathlaloga Taxi Association joined in a road safety prayer service at the side of the R521 at Dendron, Limpopo.

The road connects Dendron, Senwabarwana, Alldays and Polokwane and is the site of many deadly accidents.

The Moletjie East Pastors Forum led the prayer service on Sunday.

According to the forum’s secretary, Pastor Peter Dikgale, residents have been seriously concerned about the accidents and asked them to pray with them.

“We have also received several concerns about road accidents from different clinics and hospitals so we decided to take a stand on the matter.”

Dikgale said what worries them is that drivers continue to ignore the rules of the road.

“Drinking and driving is a satanist spirit which needs serious attention from communities.”

He said road users must avoid being enemies on the roads.

“With God’s power nothing is impossible and through our prayers He can act positively on such matters. We’re happy associations are working hand in hand with us.”

Community Safety MEC Makoma Makhurupetje said South Africa’s road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

“As the department we have had several roadblocks throughout the province during the festive season.

“We’re happy the number of road deaths is lower when compared to the 2016 figures.”
