A WOMAN accused of selling food meant for a school feeding scheme has been bust.
The woman (42) from Bluegum View in Duduza, Ekurhuleni, works as a cook at one of the local schools.
Sergeant Harry Manaka said the woman was arrested for possession of suspected stolen groceries.
“This was after sector police members followed up on information about a syndicate involved in the delivery of groceries intended for the school nutritional programme,” said Manaka.
“Police received information about a truck delivering food intended for the school at a house in Bluegum View.”
He said when cops arrived at the house, the delivery truck had already left.
“Police found groceries worth thousands of rands in the house belonging to the female suspect and wasted no time in arresting her.”
He said police have since discovered that the truck and its occupants stole food meant for schoolkids and sold it.
“Police are investigating and hope to make more arrests in this matter,” said Manaka.
The stolen groceries included mealie meal, milk and tinned fish.
The food was later handed back to the school.
The arrested woman allegedly had a deal with truck drivers who deliver groceries at schools in the area.
Four other suspects were arrested yesterday morning, three of whom are allegedly the woman’s accomplices.
