THESE residents said they are gatvol of their councillor, who has allegedly told them they annoy him.
The people of Emndeni, Soweto, told Daily Sun they had been without electricity for four days and their living conditions were terrible.
Hundreds of community members took to the streets yesterday to protest for service delivery. They littered Ntshangase Street with rocks and bricks, saying Councillor David Monamodi had not delivered on any of the promises he had made them.
Resident Oupa Maduna (54) said: “We can’t make food for my grandchild because there is no electricity. I am also on dialysis and when I go for check-ups I have to wash with cold water,” he said.
When the SunTeam arrived at the scene the councillor was pleading with residents to remove the bricks and rocks from the road to allow Eskom technicians to pass.
However, residents responded by screaming at him that they would not remove anything until they had seen the technicians with their own eyes.
They were eventually calmed down.
Monamodi told Daily Sun that damaged cables at a nearby supply station had caused the blackout.
“We have been engaging with Eskom since yesterday and they are currently replacing the cables. Around 4 000 houses are without electricity,” he said.
Monamodi said technicians started working on the problem at 9am on Tuesday and the power was restored by 11am yesterday.
