WHEN his friends refused to lend him their skipping rope, Thabiso Khumalo decided to make his own plan – but sadly this led to his death.
The eight-year-old picked up an electrical wire to skip with but he didn’t know it was connected to a pole.
The little boy from Spook Town squatter camp in Bekkersdal, west of Joburg, dropped to the ground as soon as he touched it!
His friends saw foam coming from his mouth and he couldn’t talk so they rushed to fetch his mum Phumzile Mntambo (44). When she arrived on the scene, she was shocked while trying to help her son.
The grade 2 pupil was found lying on top of the wire of death, with his left hand still holding it.
His mum told Daily Sun: “We had to get a blanket to pick him up and rushed him to hospital.”
Sadly the little boy died on the way.
Phumzile blames the tragedy on izinyoka.
“These people know how dangerous electrical cables are but they place them where people get hurt. This wire was running from an electricity pole into a shack,” she said.
Phumzile said her son was looking forward to going back to school.
“We bought him books and a school uniform but he’s not going to use them now.
“We don’t know how we are going to bury my son. My husband and I are not working,” she cried.
An inquest docket was opened at Bekkersdal Police Station.
