POPULAR Ukhozi FM DJ Chilli M has been shown the door by the SABC.
This comes after allegations that he asked for money to playlist songs.
According to kwaito group Street Boys, the DJ, whose real name is Vukani Masinga, charged them R7 500 to play their song on the radio station.
Sunday Sun first reported on the allegations two weeks ago.
Sources claimed that Chilli M, who presented Nethezeka between 12pm and 3pm on weekdays, admitted he was guilty.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Chilli M said financial problems forced him to take the bribe. He said what he did was wrong and he took full responsibility.
“Every company has its own policies. I went against SABC policy and I paid the price. I was tempted because I had lost my daughter and was in financial distress. I do not need sympathy from anyone,” he said.
“I have lost my job, but I am glad I was part of the biggest radio station in the country.
“I thank the station’s management for giving me the opportunity. I will now be focusing on other interests and spending time with my family.”
Chilli M’s daughter died in a car accident last year.
The SABC released a statement saying: “The termination follows an investigation into allegations of payola.
“He admitted to accepting some form of enticement in exchange for playlisting music.
“The corporation has also taken a decision to institute a criminal case against all parties involved.”
The statement said the SABC had a process for submitting music and it encouraged members of the public not to bribe presenters.
