YANGA Sobetwa has a powerful voice.
The 16-year-old is one of the top 6 contestants on Idols SA.
On Sunday, she performed songs by Zahara and Jennifer Hudson which left the judges and the audience excited.
Her family told the SunTeam that her success on Idols SA has made them happy and proud.
Yanga is even an inspiration to her kasi of Delft, near Cape Town.
Yanga’s dad, Ayanda Sobetwa (51), said he was happy with the support his daughter received from people.
“I’m overwhelmed by her success. I used to see these things happening to other people.
“I didn’t know it would happen to me as well. I’m over the moon.”
Yanga’s uncle Mandla Budu, who is the family’s spokesman, said they’ve been urging residents to vote for Yanga.
Three weeks ago, the family and their friends took to the streets of Delft. They were carrying banners and wearing T-shirts with Yanga’s face on them. They urged residents to keep voting for Yanga.
Mandla said they were planning to take to the street again for Yanga. “To be honest, Yanga shocked us.
“We supported her to go to Joburg to get exposure, but we didn’t expect her to reach this level.”
Zahara commented on Twitter about Yanga after she sang her song, Xa Bendingena Mama.
In a short video clip, Zahara said: “Hey Yanga, my sisters just called me right now.
“They say it’s like you are my younger sister and I’m their older sister. I just want to say keep up the good work.”
