South African A ’Capella music ensemble established by former Soweto Gospel Choir member Clarissa Nchabeng(28), THE ROOTS, is well on their way to the stars.
The group was formed with the aim of immortalizing and continuously sharing the Legacy of our Musical Heritage with the World, a gift from our South African living and fallen musical Legends. We believe we are the answer to the many wishes and desires of our SA musical pioneers to be that young generation who will unceasingly and proudly advocate for the continuance of the rich Musical Legacy we have inherited.
The name of the group is self explanatory in that they hope to be a representation of their musical Roots. "To us, we believe we have inherited and have been entrusted with a rich musical heritage by our Musical legends, a legacy which must be embraced and preserved by us and the generations to come." they told Daily Sun.
"We have in many occasions heard our living and fallen musical and theatre Legends express their desire/ wish to have a younger generation who will proudly inherit and ensure their musical and story telling continues to live now and in many years to come- we THE ROOTS are the answer to these wishes."
"It is for those reason we will be launching for the very first time in South Africa a peculiar musical project aimed at the sole purpose of enhancing social cohesion and preserving our South African Musical Heritage. This project will feature the most loved music works of more than ten of our prominent and globally acclaimed fallen and living musical and theatre Legends such as Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie, Lucky Dube, Mahlathini & Mahotella Queens, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Tshepo Tshola, Mbongeni Ngema, Caiphus Semenya, Dorothy Masuka, Letta Mbulu, Abigail Khubeka, Condry Ziqubu, Johnny Clegg to mention just a few."
