GLOBAL superstar Beyonce is heading to Mzansi for a free concert, scheduled for 2 December at the FNB Stadium in Joburg.
But music fans will have to sweat to get their hands on free tickets. They will earn the tickets by doing charitable acts in health and nutrition, education, gender equality, and water and sanitation.
Hosted by the international organisation Global Citizen, the concert forms part of the Mandela celebrations. This was revealed at a press conference held at the Sandton Convention Centre yesterday.
Beyonce will perform alongside her husband, rapper Jay Z. They will be supported by local acts Cassper Nyovest and Tsonga rapper and poet Sho Madjozi.
Other international acts will include singers Tiwa Savage, D’Banj, Ed Sheeran, Usher, Femi Kuti, Pharrell Williams, Wizkid and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The concert will be hosted by model Naomi Campbell, singer Sir Bob Geldof, TV personalities Gayle King and Bonang Matheba, and actors Tyler Perry and Forest Whitaker.
Hugh Evans, Global Citizen co-founder, said: “Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest examples of resistance, patience and forgiveness that our world will ever know.
“It’s our great honour to campaign in his name and answer his call to be the generation to end extreme poverty.”
