South African house musician and SAMA nominee Holly Wasserfall aka Holly Rey is gearing up for the SAMA awards and for her this is a big moment as she told Daily Sun that she is a massive fan of most of the artists nominated and absolutely loves every song in SOTY 25 Category.

The songwriter who hails from KZN says Mzansi as whole inspires her with its beautiful cultural diversity and that helps her process of making songs different.

"We live in the most beautiful culturally diverse country in the World, it would be impossible for me not to be inspired. The process for every song is different. It honestly depends on who I am working with and what their process is, I try to be as collaborative as possible so if Producers want to send a beat and leave the writing to me then I write at home in my bedroom, if Producers like to be part of the inspiration and want me to work on a concept in studio with them, then that’s what I do BUT, I really like to record my final vocals with my own Engineer. I like to record final vocals in a familiar space. "

Growing up, Holly Rey was always surrounded by music as she had one Uncle who reviewed music for local publications and record labels and another Uncle who was a musician, played multiple instruments and she literally does not remember life before music.

"I started playing instruments when I was five years old, I was in a marimba band at school, took drumming and guitar lessons and sang in the choir. I literally do not remember life before music. I evolved into the industry. Jay Savage offered me a Publishing deal with Sony ATV Publishing for songwriting when I was 14 years old and the rest is history."

The 23 year told Daily Sun that she also enjoys performing in chilled Kasi Vibes. "I love each type of venue for the different vibes they offer. I love Shisanyama venues for the chilled Kasi Vibes and then I love clubs for the Party Vibes. My favourite kind of performance though is when we take things to the streets. We have done a few performances where venue owners have anticipated bigger crowds than the venue could handle so they have shut the streets down. Two of my favourite performances over the last festive season were literally in the streets. People were climbing street lights to see me. "

The singer, songwriter also revealed that she loves everything about the Industry except its politics.

"My least favorite part of the industry is the politics. I tend to stay away from situations or people that are connected to any form of negativity or politics. I am extremely sensitive to energy and when something feels wrong, I quietly withdraw and move onto something else. Life is short, you have to live your life in pursuit of happiness and good people."
