Rapper and producer, Riky Rick celebrated Father’s Day by thanking his son, Maik Daniel Makhado with a beautiful open letter yesterday.
For most people, Father’s Day is spent cherishing the men who we hold dearest in our hearts, our fathers and those men who have held father-figure roles in our lives.
Some will even thank their single-mothers for having been both their mom and dad.
But Riky Rick, who we have all come to know as a very tender-hearted man who does everything for his family, chose to celebrate his son instead.
After recently announcing that he would be taking a break from the music industry to focus on his family, Riky said that before his son was born he was scared.
“I don’t think anything could’ve prepared me for fatherhood. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to provide for you, put a decent roof over your head or buy you new sneakers,” he said.
The rapper, whose real name is Rikhado Makhado, says he has since realized that the things that truly matter are priceless.
“As time went on it hit me that none of those things matter as much as spending time together; laughing with you, dancing like michael jackson or building castles with the mud outside,” he said.
He went on to say that he wishes things could’ve been different with his own father, who spent his life working hard to provide for their family.
“My father was a good man but I wish he could’ve been allowed the space not to have to chase money his whole life, I wish I could’ve told him ‘PAPA, ALL I NEED IS YOU”,” Riky continued.
He ended off by thanking his son for giving him a new lease on life.
“Every day is a chance to improve ourselves and all we have to do is take the first step. Thank you my son. You turned a scared young man into a proud father. I LOVE YOU,” he said.
“My greatest achievement will be making sure my seed understands that the world is a place of limitless possibilities. You make the rules,” he continued in another post.
