AFTER playing the role of Rajesh Kumar for nearly 15 years, Jack Devnarain is leaving SABC 3’s Isidingo.
However, he says he has no regrets and is looking forward to new projects.
Rajesh’s fans will see the character, which Devnarain has played for more than half of his 29-year career as an actor, leave the small screen on Wednesday.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Devnarain said it had been a great privilege to act in the soapie.
“I had the opportunity to be at a meeting with the soapie where they explained why they were not renewing my contract. I’m glad my agent and I were given a chance to understand,” he said.
Devnarain, who has played parts on series like Home Affairs, 37 Honey Street and City Sesla, started acting while he was at university in 1989 and later worked as a policeman.
“I’m planning to promote and showcase new talent with variety shows, comedies and other events from the middle of the year,” he said.
“It’s important for me to start with a big event to guide young performers. I really want to see more of our local talent being developed.”
Devnarain said he would be organising the events under his promotions company, which is called Dingo Dawg.
Isidingo publicist Yvonne Siphuka confirmed that Devnarain had left the soapie and his last episode would air on Wednesday.
“Jack has been with the show for 15 years and has done a stellar job but he has decided to venture into other avenues,” he said.
“We wish him all the best.”
