Nolo Phiri is back on our small screens!
In Rhythm City, she plays Niki, who ran away after killing Suffocate’s younger brother Themba.
Niki left Suffocate’s wife Puleng a note, confessing to killing him.
She left her baby daddy Suffocate with their child Busi. Things became sour in the Ndlovu household because of the drama Niki caused as she enjoyed bullying people.
Nolo has enjoyed her time behind the camera as a producer for almost two years.
But she told SunBuzz she was thrilled to be back and really missed the show and the Rhythm City family.
“I’m superexcited to be back! I missed this girl. In true Niki style, she comes back to rock the boat and ruffle feathers. People can expect drama that will leave them on the edge of their seats. She’s got some serious scores to settle and won’t let anyone stand in her way.”
Niki comes back just as Suffocate and Puleng have resolved the issues in their marriage and are in a good space, enjoying living peacefully as a couple.
Nolo said: “It’s such an exciting story. It was impossible to resist coming back for this storyline.”
She said when Niki’s around, no peace is guaranteed as Puleng must always be on her guard.
Nolo said through playing the role, she has learnt a lot about polygamy and that the heart chooses what the heart wants and it doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else.
“What Nolo and Niki have in common is that they put themselves first. Always put yourself first, even though people make you feel guilty. There’s nothing wrong with choosing your own happiness,” she said.
The actress said her biggest challenge is separating what Nolo thinks or does from Niki.
She said as a woman in the entertainment industry, she also had to deal with not being given credit after earning it and being reduced to just a pretty face.
